A man died Sunday evening in Le Moule, Guadeloupe, after being shot by police. The intervention occurred as the individual, armed with a knife, approached the officers.
According to initial reports, law enforcement officers first used a Taser to try to subdue the man. When he continued to advance, three shots were fired. The victim, who was taken to the hospital by paramedics, died shortly afterward.
An investigation has been opened to clarify the circumstances
The gendarme involved was taken into custody and disarmed, in accordance with standard procedures. The investigation has been entrusted to the research section to determine precisely how the events unfolded and to assess the circumstances surrounding the use of the weapon.
A magistrate went to the scene to oversee the initial investigation. Meanwhile, the situation remained tense in the area, where some residents expressed their dismay following the intervention.
