A 56-year-old motorcyclist died in Grenoble on the night of Wednesday, August 26, to Thursday, August 27, after being struck by a car traveling at an estimated speed of approximately 150 km/h. Emergency services attempted to assist the victim, but he could not be saved.
A few dozen seconds before the collision, the vehicle had attracted the attention of officers from the anti-crime squad traveling in an unmarked car. The driver then reportedly ran a red light at very high speed before hitting the motorcyclist.
The driver was taken into custody.
The driver, a 31-year-old man, was not injured in the accident. Officers from the Anti-Crime Brigade (BAC) arrested him immediately after the incident and then took him into custody.
An investigation must now precisely reconstruct the sequence of events of the collision and confirm the speed at which the car was traveling. The investigation will also have to determine any aggravating circumstances and the criminal charges that could be brought against the driver.
