The investigation is accelerating following the disappearance of Lyhanna, an 11-year-old girl who went missing on Friday in Fleurance, Gers. A 41-year-old man has been taken into custody and a judicial inquiry for kidnapping and unlawful confinement of a minor under 15 has been opened, announced the public prosecutor of Auch, Clémence Meyer, on Sunday.
The middle school student was last seen on Friday around 15:05 p.m. near her school. According to initial findings, she was reportedly seen in the suspect's vehicle. The investigations conducted since her disappearance led detectives to quickly focus on this man, who was taken into custody on Saturday.
Why the fugue theory is rejected
During questioning, the man in his forties claimed to have dropped the young girl off at the Fleurance municipal swimming pool. However, investigators found his statements to be inconsistent and vague, strengthening suspicions against him. His custody is to be extended until Monday to allow for further investigation.
The prosecutor also indicated that there was no evidence to support the theory that she had run away. According to relatives and investigators, Lyhanna had never left her home in this manner before.
The search continues actively in the Fleurance area, particularly around the swimming pool mentioned by the suspect. Authorities are deploying significant resources to try to find the young girl and establish the exact circumstances of her disappearance.
