The investigation into the shooting that left one dead and four injured in Grenoble has taken a new turn. Two minors have been arrested and taken into custody as part of the investigation following the attack, which occurred Tuesday evening in a sensitive neighborhood of the city, the Lyon prosecutor's office announced.
The two teenagers are suspected of participating in the shooting, which took place near a known drug dealing spot. All five victims were known to the police and had extensive criminal records. A 33-year-old man died from his injuries after being shot twice in the back, while four other people were wounded, some seriously.
A possible revenge plot between rival groups
According to Grenoble prosecutor Étienne Manteaux, this attack appears to be a likely "retaliation" for another settling of scores that occurred a few days earlier in the neighboring town of Échirolles. The previous Sunday, a 16-year-old boy had been killed and his body found in a burned-out car.
Given the seriousness of the facts and the alleged links between the two cases, the investigations have been entrusted to the Specialized Interregional Jurisdiction (JIRS) of Lyon. The questioning of the two minors is continuing in order to determine their exact role in this case, which once again illustrates the persistent tensions related to drug trafficking in the Grenoble metropolitan area.
