Finistère: Two people drown during a water hike

Two people died on Wednesday in Finistère during an organized sea walking outing off the coast of Plouescat. The tragedy occurred while a group was participating in this supervised sporting activity, also known as coastal walking, in sea conditions that are still being investigated.

According to initial reports from rescue services, several participants got into difficulty in the water during the outing. Despite the rapid intervention of rescuers and medical teams, two victims could not be revived. Others were also treated after suffering from severe shock or signs of exhaustion related to the conditions at sea.

An increasingly popular activity

Coastal walking has seen strong growth in recent years along the French coastline, particularly in Brittany and Hauts-de-France. This discipline involves walking in the water with partial immersion of the body, often in groups and under the supervision of a sports instructor.

The exact circumstances of the tragedy must now be established by investigators and maritime authorities. Weather conditions, water temperature, currents, and even a possible medical emergency could be examined to understand what caused the drowning of the two participants.
