The mayor of Plouasne, in Côtes-d'Armor, along with three other people, have been taken into custody as part of an investigation into the death of a 66-year-old woman on April 7. The Saint-Malo prosecutor's office has classified the incident as aggravated assault resulting in death.
According to initial reports, the victim was prevented from returning home while elected officials attempted to have her hospitalized in a psychiatric ward without prior legal proceedings. Videos show that she was held down for several minutes and restrained with a rope and strap.
An intervention without a legal framework
The autopsy established a probable link between the violence suffered and the death. The prosecutor's office emphasizes that no administrative decision or medical certificate had been issued to justify involuntary hospitalization.
An investigation has been opened into arbitrary arrest resulting in death, group violence, and failure to assist a person in danger. The investigation is ongoing to determine individual responsibilities in this case.
