A shooting in the Fleming district of Carcassonne on Thursday night left one person dead and five wounded. According to initial findings, the incident may be related to a drug-related settling of scores. Armed individuals opened fire with an automatic weapon on a group of people before fleeing in a vehicle.
The car used by the attackers, which had been reported stolen, was found burned out shortly after the incident. Investigators are focusing on the theory of a premeditated attack, while the investigation continues to identify the perpetrators and determine the precise circumstances of the attack.
A neighborhood already marked by violence
A few hours before this shooting, a 21-year-old man, known to police, had already been shot and wounded in the same neighborhood. At this stage, investigators have not established a link between the two events, although this possibility has not been ruled out.
The Carcassonne prosecutor's office declined to comment on the case. This latest shooting comes amid recurring tensions linked to drug trafficking in certain neighborhoods of the city. Last May, a young man was killed following a fight in the La Conte district, identified as a drug dealing hotspot.
