Ardennes: Gendarmerie barracks targeted by nighttime gunfire, investigation opened

A gendarmerie barracks located in Vouziers, in the Ardennes region, was targeted by gunfire in the early hours of Saturday morning, but no one was injured. The incident occurred around 0:40 a.m., while the building was unoccupied.

According to the prefecture, several bullet impacts were found on the facade of the barracks. The prosecutor of Charleville-Mézières specified that four bullets had struck different points on the site, including the entrance door, the intercom, and the illuminated sign.

In light of these events, the public prosecutor's office has opened an investigation for "damage to property by means dangerous to persons," due to the status of the establishment in question. The investigation has been entrusted to the Reims research section, in collaboration with the Rethel research brigade.

No arrests had been made by Sunday evening. Authorities are seeking to identify the perpetrators and determine the motives behind this attack on state infrastructure.

Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez reacted by offering his support to the gendarmes involved, describing the events as "unacceptable" and assuring that those responsible would be prosecuted.
