A ketamine trafficking ring has been dismantled in the Alpes-Maritimes region after a delivery error led investigators to the operation. Last March, 10 kilos of the drug were discovered hidden in bags of pet food in Grasse. This seizure, estimated to be worth between €700,000 and €900,000, triggered an investigation that resulted in the arrest of four people on June 30.
A network linked to rave parties
The dismantled network primarily supplied the rave party scene. The narcotics originated in the Netherlands and transited through the Grasse region before being sold to a targeted clientele. The method of concealing them in bags of pet food was designed to evade customs and police checks.
This case illustrates the new methods used by traffickers to smuggle prohibited substances into France. Ketamine, an anesthetic diverted from its veterinary use, is increasingly prevalent in alternative party scenes. The four suspects arrested will have to answer for their alleged involvement in this large-scale network.
