An explosion occurred overnight Saturday to Sunday outside the US embassy in Oslo, but no one was injured, Norwegian authorities said. The blast was heard around 1 a.m., according to police, who added that the circumstances of the incident are still unknown.
According to police operations commander Michael Delmer, interviewed by the public broadcaster NRK, the explosion struck the entrance to the consular section of the embassy. Damage is reported to be limited, but authorities are currently refusing to provide further details about the nature of the explosion, as the investigation is still in its early stages.
A major security operation was deployed
Following the incident, a large security perimeter was established around the diplomatic building, with a significant police deployment. Drones, specialized dogs, armed police officers, and helicopters were mobilized in the area.
A teenager living nearby told TV2 that he heard a loud bang while watching television with his mother. Looking out the window, they saw flashing lights and numerous police officers arriving at the scene.
So far, the police have given no indication of a possible link between this explosion and current international tensions. Several American embassies have recently been placed on high alert in certain regions of the world due to US military operations against Iran.
