One person was killed and at least 16 others were injured, several seriously, after a vehicle plowed into a crowd Saturday night during celebrations of Christopher Street Day (CSD), the main Pride event in BerlinThe tragedy occurred in the Tiergarten area, near the Brandenburg Gate, where hundreds of thousands of people had gathered. 

According to initial reports from Berlin police, a white vehicle suddenly veered off course and drove straight into the crowd. It came to a stop against a tree. Emergency services immediately deployed a large contingent, the festivities were suspended, and attendees were asked to leave the area. 

The latest report indicates one death and at least 16 injuries, several of which are critical. Medical teams treated the victims at the scene before transferring them to various hospitals in the German capital. 

The exact circumstances are still being investigated. German authorities have launched a wide-ranging inquiry to determine whether it was a deliberate act, an accident, or a premeditated attack. At this stage, no motive has been officially confirmed, and the police have not classified the incident as a terrorist attack. According to several media outlets, the driver fled the scene, prompting a major manhunt. 

The mayor-governor of Berlin, Kai Wegner, denounced "an attack against our free and open society" and offered his condolences to the victims and their families, while also praising the rapid intervention of the emergency services.

This tragedy occurred during Berlin's Christopher Street Day, one of the largest LGBTQ+ gatherings in Europe, drawing hundreds of thousands of people each year. The event was cancelled that evening due to the emergency response and the securing of the area.
