Winter weather is firmly entrenched across the country this Saturday, with dry but treacherous cold, especially in the morning. The main danger lies in the presence of black ice in many areas, including where no snow has fallen. Slippery roads are reported from Normandy to the Paris Basin, including the Centre region, calling for extreme caution when traveling, including on foot.
In the east and east-central regions, mornings begin with a snowy, bright landscape and mostly clear skies. Elsewhere, the cold is widespread, with temperatures ranging from 0 to -5°C, while freezing fog still lingers in the Garonne Valley. The southeast enjoys dry, sunny weather, but a cold wind intensifies the feeling of frost.
The afternoon is expected to be calmer weather-wise. Main roads will gradually become passable, although some landscapes in the east will remain snow-covered. A few lingering snow flurries may still fall near the Benelux borders. Temperatures will remain low, close to 0°C in the east and between 1 and 5°C elsewhere, reaching up to 8°C locally in Brittany and along the Mediterranean coast. In the evening, the sky will clear considerably, leading to another widespread frost, but with a lower risk of black ice.
