Vast natural areas in southern Argentina have been ablaze for several days. In one week, nearly 15,000 hectares have been destroyed in Patagonia, forcing authorities and rescue services to mobilize significant resources in the face of a situation still considered worrying.
Villages evacuated and natural sites threatened
The epicenter of the fires is in Chubut province, particularly around Epuyén and the tourist area of Puerto Patriada, where thousands of visitors had to evacuate urgently. Several homes have been reduced to ashes, and strong winds have hampered the work of firefighters, posing a risk to essential infrastructure.
While a relative lull was observed on Sunday, local authorities remain on high alert. Other fires continue to spread in neighboring provinces, and a UNESCO-listed national park is among the affected areas, highlighting the growing vulnerability of these territories to large-scale wildfires.
