The weather will change dramatically this Thursday with the arrival of a very active weather system from the Atlantic. From the morning, torrential rain will soak the western half of the country, while the east will retain a wintry feel with snow or freezing rain near the northeastern borders. In the Pyrenees, snowfall will remain heavy above 1100 meters, with stormy conditions at higher altitudes.
A general thaw preceded the arrival of Storm Goretti.
The afternoon marked a clear shift: milder weather spread across France, and the snow quickly melted in the lowlands, replaced by rain. Temperatures rose above 0°C, and the wintry spell of the past few days came to an end. The wind also strengthened, particularly between the Atlantic and the English Channel, where gusts became strong. The rain remained continuous and occasionally heavy.
In the evening, the situation deteriorated further with the approach of Storm Goretti. Gusts reached 100 to 130 km/h on the Breton and Channel coasts, accompanied by very rough seas. The wind moved inland overnight, heralding a potentially stormy start to Friday.
