After the snow, a sunny but still icy Tuesday

Following Monday's snowfall, the weather is calming down considerably across much of the country on Tuesday. The northern half of the country is enjoying clear skies, but the cold remains intense, particularly in areas still covered in snow. Frosts are sometimes severe at dawn, with temperatures frequently dropping below -5°C in rural areas, and an increased risk of black ice on secondary roads.

Winter sun in the north, icy wind in the south

In the afternoon, sunshine prevails across the northern half of the country, creating a pleasant wintry atmosphere but without any real thaw, with highs struggling to reach 0 to 3°C. From Aquitaine to the Centre-East, the sky remains cloudier, but without precipitation. Near the Mediterranean, the weather is dry and bright, but the mistral and tramontane winds blow strongly, with gusts reaching 70 to 80 km/h, significantly intensifying the feeling of cold.

In the evening, the weather will remain calm and mostly clear, leading to another rapid drop in temperatures. Frost will become widespread again, particularly on snow-covered ground, while the wind will remain noticeable in the southeast. Caution is still advised for travel at night and in the morning.
