Paris prosecutor Laure Beccuau announced on RTL radio Sunday the extent of the ongoing investigations into violence in Parisian after-school programs. The investigations cover more than one hundred establishments: 84 preschools, about twenty elementary schools, and around ten daycare centers. One activity leader has been placed in pretrial detention. The magistrate described the case as an absolute emergency for the prosecutor's office.
78 officers suspended since January
Since the beginning of 2026, the City of Paris has suspended 78 staff members working in schools, 31 of them due to suspected sexual abuse. The new mayor, Emmanuel Grégoire, describes these problems as systemic. The incidents date back to different periods and involve acts of violence committed against young children during extracurricular activities.
The scale of the scandal reveals profound failings in the oversight of staff working with young children in Paris. Judicial authorities are conducting numerous hearings and searches to establish the full extent of the allegations. Parisian families are now awaiting specific answers regarding the protective measures implemented in the affected facilities.
