Le président américain Donald Trump said Wednesday that the United States was prepared to launch new strikes against Iran if no peace agreement was reached, while saying it was willing to wait "a few days" to get what it called a "good response" from Tehran.
Speaking as tensions remain high in the Middle East, Trump claimed that Washington had been "very close" to a resumption of hostilities, reiterating that the United States could hit Iran "very hard" if negotiations failed.
For its part, Iran warned that a US attack would trigger a wider regional war. Tehran is demanding, in particular, the lifting of US sanctions, the end of the economic blockade, and the release of Iranian funds frozen abroad as part of any potential agreement.
According to Reuters, two Chinese oil tankers carrying about 4 million barrels of oil left the Strait of Hormuz, highlighting persistent concerns about global energy security in this strategic area.
The discussions between Washington and Tehran are taking place against a backdrop of significant regional instability and increased diplomatic pressure surrounding the Iranian nuclear program.
