Altice France has decided to extend until June 5th the exclusive negotiations with Bouygues Telecom, Iliad, and Orange for the sale of SFR. The three French telecom operators are continuing their work to finalize this major acquisition, valued at €20,35 billion. This extension reflects the technical and financial complexity of the deal, which still requires time to reach a definitive agreement.
A complex transaction to finalize
The deputy CEO and CFO of the Bouygues group acknowledged on May 7 the delicate nature of this transaction. Negotiations are mobilizing entire teams at the three bidders, who must agree on the distribution of SFR's assets and the precise terms of the acquisition. This unprecedented operation in the French telecommunications sector could reshape the national competitive landscape.
A resolution expected in early June
The fate of France's fourth-largest telecom operator will be decided in the coming weeks. If the discussions are successful, SFR will change hands after years under Altice's control, amidst significant consolidation in the European telecoms market. Competition authorities will then be called upon to examine the impact of this restructuring on competition and French consumers.
