Raphaël Glucksmann has taken another step towards the 2027 presidential election. The MEP and leader of Place Publique declared Tuesday evening on TF1 that he is giving himself three months to decide on his candidacy. This announcement comes as the left struggles to field a single candidate in the face of the threat posed by the National Rally. The MEP intends to use the summer to consult with political figures within his camp and assess the conditions for a possible victory.
A firm commitment to social democracy
Raphaël Glucksmann made no secret of his deep conviction during his televised address. According to him, the social-democratic space is the only force capable of defeating the far right in the second round of the presidential election. This analysis reflects his desire to unite beyond the radical left alone, appealing to centrist voters and those disillusioned with the presidential majority. The MEP is banking on a moderate profile, capable of attracting a broader electorate than that of La France Insoumise.
The final decision is therefore expected in September. Raphaël Glucksmann intends to weigh every factor before committing to what promises to be a particularly close race. His choice will depend in particular on the ability of left-wing forces to unite behind a common project and on his own credibility in the polls compared to the leading figures of the National Rally. The window of opportunity remains narrow for someone who achieved a respectable result in the 2024 European elections.
