Presidential election 2027: Sandrine Rousseau rules out voting for Raphaël Glucksmann in the first round

Strategic divisions on the left continue to surface. In an interview with Libération, Green Party MP Sandrine Rousseau stated that she will "never" vote for Raphaël Glucksmann in the first round of the 2027 presidential election. This stance underscores the growing tensions between different factions of the left as the presidential election approaches.

The Green Party representative criticizes the MEP from Place Publique for his lack of commitment to major environmental issues. According to her, Raphaël Glucksmann has never championed sufficiently ambitious environmental measures and represents a social-liberal approach incompatible with environmental priorities. She also criticizes his strategy of breaking with La France Insoumise, arguing that "being against Mélenchon is not a political platform."

The possibility of a primary election is fading.

Sandrine Rousseau also criticizes the leadership of her own party. An internal opponent of Marine Tondelier, she believes the Greens have lost their central role on the left by seeking closer ties with the Socialist Party. According to her, the movement has given too much influence to the Socialists in discussions surrounding a potential joint primary, to the detriment of a broader strategy of unity.

While Raphaël Glucksmann has given himself three months to try to unite a republican, non-Mélenchonist left, the possibility of a primary election seems increasingly uncertain. Opponents of Marine Tondelier are even planning to challenge her candidacy at the next Green Party federal council meeting in early June. For Sandrine Rousseau, an automatic endorsement of Raphaël Glucksmann in the absence of a primary would risk the party losing both its political identity and its parliamentary influence.
