Former Prime Minister Gabriel Attal has taken another step in his rise to power ahead of the 2027 presidential election. In an interview with Le Point, the leader of the Renaissance party clearly states his ambitions, while also announcing the imminent publication of his book, "En homme libre" (As a Free Man), expected at the end of April. The book is presented as a political tool intended to "speak to the hearts of the French people" and lay the groundwork for his platform.
Having gained experience at Matignon, Gabriel Attal now claims to have "clear ideas for France" and says he is ready to go further. He is calling for a genuine campaign within the center-right, arguing that the lack of debate in 2022 deprived voters of a clear choice. His strategy is now well-established: field visits, meetings with the French people, and a major rally planned for the end of May in Paris.
An open battle within the Macron camp
But this rise to prominence comes amid internal competition, particularly from Édouard Philippe, who is currently leading in the polls among centrist parties. Gabriel Attal will also have to contend with other figures like Gérald Darmanin and Élisabeth Borne, in a still fragmented political camp.
In his book, he does not hesitate to distance himself from certain decisions ofEmmanuel Macronin particular the dissolution of the Assembly which he describes as "disastrous". He also develops a broader critique of the functioning of institutions, denouncing a "vetocracy" which hinders public action and calling for a profound transformation of the exercise of power.
