Macron faces Bagayoko in Saint-Denis: a tense encounter following accusations of silence on racism

The Chairperson Emmanuel Macron He is going to Saint-Denis this Tuesday, April 14th, to attend the traditional concert of the Legion of Honour's schools. On this occasion, he is expected to meet for the first time the new mayor, Bally Bagayoko, recently elected under the banner of La France Insoumise.

This meeting, presented as a mere formality, comes at a tense time. The mayor of Saint-Denis criticizes the head of state for his lack of response to the racist attacks he claims to have been subjected to, particularly following his victory in the municipal elections. Despite condemnations from several members of the government, he denounced the Élysée Palace's "complete lack of stance."

While no official exchange has been confirmed, the post-concert period could see an informal discussion between the two men, alongside the prefect and the local member of parliament, Stéphane Peu. This is a closely watched event, especially since Bally Bagayoko also highlighted the absence of government representatives at an anti-racism rally held in early April.
