Laurent Wauquiez expected at Mont Mézenc for his tense political comeback

Laurent Wauquiez will hold his traditional political comeback this Sunday, August 30th, at Mont Mézenc in the Haute-Loire region. The leader of the Les Républicains parliamentary group is expected to arrive at 13 p.m., before the start of the ascent scheduled for around 15 p.m. A counter-ascent has been announced by the Confédération Paysanne (Farmers' Confederation).

Over the years, the Mézenc gathering has become one of Laurent Wauquiez's key political events. This year's event will notably take place with the Minister of Agriculture, Annie Genevard, in attendance, whom members of the Confédération Paysanne (Farmers' Confederation) hope to question on several agricultural issues.

The farmers' union is particularly critical of the health protocol implemented to combat bovine lumpy skin disease, as well as the emergency agricultural law. It is calling for mobilization to defend better incomes for farmers, generational renewal, and the adaptation of farms to climate change.

The traditional ascent of Mont Mézenc has already been disrupted several times by protests. Opponents of road projects, and later of the Duplomb law, mobilized in previous years. This year's event is therefore expected to be highly political once again, as the 2027 presidential campaign intensifies on the right.
