Cavaillon femicide: Maguy's murderer retried on appeal in Nîmes

The appeal trial of Pierre Quistrebert opened this Monday, June 15, in Nîmes. Sentenced to life imprisonment in the first instance in June 2025 by the Vaucluse Assize Court, the 64-year-old is appearing again for the murder of his ex-partner, Malgorzata Splawska, nicknamed Maguy. On July 25, 2022, the woman in her fifties was stabbed thirty-two times in the chest and face as she left the parking lot of her workplace in Cavaillon. Quistrebert had decided to appeal his conviction to the Gard Court of Appeal.

A new trial is scheduled until June 18th.

The proceedings, which will continue until Thursday, June 18, will allow for a re-examination of the circumstances of this particularly violent femicide. The accused will face the same charges as in the first trial, where the jury found him guilty of murder. The brutality of the act and the number of blows inflicted had a profound impact on the initial trial held in Avignon.

Four years after the tragedy

This new trial comes nearly four years after the tragedy that devastated Cavaillon and the region's Polish community. The victim's family hopes this new judicial review will confirm the sentence handed down last year. A life sentence was then imposed for a premeditated act committed against a woman who was trying to rebuild her life after their separation.
