“I'm not waiting for TV to fill theaters! TV, they always call you when they want to get maximum ratings. But when it's you who calls them, there's no one there! »

New adventure for Afida Turner! Since January 16, the thunderous singer and actress has been performing in the play “Requiem pour une conne” at the Théâtre Trévise in Paris. Renowned for her outspokenness, Afida Turner leaves no one indifferent and creates a buzz with each appearance. We interviewed her. And as usual with her, things are moving!

Jérôme Goulon: You are on the poster for Requiem for a bitch. This is the first time you've performed in a play. How was your first?
Afida Turner: Breaking the house! I was nervous at first, but I didn't think it would be so full, with people shouting my name. It was sick! So I'm very happy!

Are you already considering an extension?
Yes, I don't set any limits for myself!

Tell us about this piece…
It's the story of a singer from the 1990s, Ina Star, who had enormous success, but who is a little less successful. As a result, she falls into depression and plunges into alcohol and drugs. And then one day, she wakes up and discovers in the celebrity press that she said she was quitting her career, that she had AIDS and that she only had a month to live... In fact, there is a plot against her on the part of her press officer and her fake boyfriend, since she is a lesbian.

Seeing you in a play is something new. Some people are surprised, but theater and you are a long story...
Yes, I have been doing theater all my life! You put a camera on me, it's a sketch! I did the Cours Florent very young, because I had this passion. I love improvisation, and have since school, and it shows in the play. People loved it.

So you improvise a lot on stage?
Yes. I received a text pad, but I cannot learn a text. I need to improvise!

Are there any similarities between you and your character?
Yes, that's why I accepted the piece! But unlike the character, I don't take drugs!

Is champagne your thing?
Yes, but not all the time either. Have you seen the body I have? I do a lot of sport, I only drink tea and water. I don't drink every day. Afterwards, when I party, I party!

It's new to see you in the theater. And as is often the case, every time you do something, some people criticize you. What do you answer them?
Criticizing is easy, but the people who criticize you don't actually do anything! Their job is to criticize people who try to do something and get away with it. When we come from where I come from, we do everything to get there. I've been doing television, music and now theater for 20 years. So I have nothing to say to these people. These are jealous people who would probably like to be in my place. They don't have my heart, my energy, my talent, my story, or my audience. So I want to tell them: “Suck my big dick!” »

You live in Los Angeles, but your audience is mainly in France. France, is it still important to you?
I have actually lived in Los Angeles for 20 years. But my first love and the majority of my audience are in France. I love France, I love my audience. This is also why for 20 years, I have been going back and forth, like right now, to play in the play.

Do you have other projects coming up?
There is the release of the album, and then also the title Étienne...

And when is the album planned for release?
You know what, the assholes at record labels don't answer the phone, so it's a bit complicated...

Tell us about the song again Étienne, the 1980s hit by Guesh Patti, which you covered. Your clip created an incredible buzz on social networks…
In fact, this video is just a wink that I made at the end of a photo shoot. This song sticks to me, and since my voice is shrill and a little broken, it was perfect! Besides, the song Étienne is in the play and we sing it. It's fantastic !

Have you met Guesh Patty?
No I do not know her. But for me, he's the biggest rockstar in France. It's a change from bitches with their 16 year old baby voice. They don't look like stars, they sing like 12 year olds. They don't have any balls in their asses. Guesch Patti, it’s moving!

In three months, it's the presidential election. You said you wanted to introduce yourself. For what ?
The public had nominated me! I received lots of messages. But we couldn't continue, because we didn't have enough money for the campaign.

So if the conditions were right, you would have continued this adventure?
Of course ! If I had the signatures and the budget, I would run for president!

And if you were elected, what would be your first decisions?
If I were President of the Republic, I would do something for the homeless, by moving them into vacant apartments. When you see people in the street, in the rain and in the cold, in 2022, it is completely incomprehensible. The second thing would be to give a helping hand to the yellow vests. People cannot live on 1 euros a month.

You who play in the theater, how did you experience this period of closures of cultural places, gauges, etc…
I always thought it was all exaggerated. It took terrible proportions to control the population, period.

“I am an egomaniac, a narcissist. I get up in the morning, I do my things. Do you think I have time for people who criticize me? »

Last year, we celebrated 20 years of Loft Story, the reality show that made you famous. How do you view reality TV today?
For me, there is no more reality TV, because there are no more stars! The candidates we see have zero talent. They all have the same face, the same facial expressions, the same tattoos... We only see fake bad boys... The girls are all remade, all stupid, with lousy voices.

And you, for your part, are you surprised by the interest you arouse?
It's true that when I see people shouting my name, when I fill rooms without promotion, without being on the radio, it's very moving, and sometimes I break down. I thank the Good Lord and my audience.

Do you feel like you're being boycotted by some?
Fortunately I'm not waiting for TV to fill rooms! You know, TV, they always call you when they want to get maximum ratings. But when it's you who calls them, there's no one there! It's the truth ! Arthur, Ruquier and company, they always invite the same people! I want to say to Léa Salamé: let’s do a real interview!

Why don't they invite you? Is your style disturbing?
No not at all. It's because I'm brilliant, and they like to do interviews where they can bully their guests. Except that with me, it doesn't work, I quickly turn the situation around!

You have a very strong character and are truly outspoken. To those who say you have a big mouth and are arrogant, what do you say?
I don't care about them, I don't know them! I am an egomaniac, a narcissist. I get up in the morning, I do my things. Do you think I have time for people who criticize me? I totally don't care! I live in Los Angeles, I want to go to New York, I'm going to New York. I want to go to Paris, I'm going to Paris. I'm living my life!

And unlike your detractors, you have real fans...
Yes. I think they can relate to me. I have a difficult past. I didn't have a dad, I was at the DDASS, I suffered violence and sexual abuse, but I got through it on my own. I went to Los Angeles, I produced, wrote and composed an album with my money, which I put on the table. And I think there are plenty of people who would like to do that. Same, when I did An almost perfect dinner on M6 and I fired the bitch, there are plenty of people who would have wanted to do it. So I touch people. They identify with me.

On a personal level, we read a bit of everything and its opposite about you. Are you still with Ronnie Turner, Tina Turner's son?
There are some, so let them take care of their mother's balls! I've been married for 16 years, I don't have to justify myself. People are sick!

Finally, what would be the ultimate consecration for you?
I would like to continue doing the same thing, music, TV, cinema, theater, but bigger…
