A mother and her son, around ten years old, were kidnapped on Monday, April 13th in Burgundy before being found and freed the following day in a hotel room in Val-de-Marne during an operation by the GIGN (National Gendarmerie Intervention Group). According to initial reports, the victims were being held captive as part of an extortion attempt targeting their family and friends.
According to the investigation, a ransom demand of several thousand euros was sent to the father, an entrepreneur in the cryptocurrency sector. The two victims were not physically harmed, according to a source close to the case.
At least four people have been arrested in this case. Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez confirmed the arrests, describing the operation as part of a series of investigations related to the cryptocurrency sector, which is increasingly targeted by criminal networks.
