Historic heatwave: up to 43°C expected this Monday, absolute records threatened

The heatwave reaches its peak this Monday with exceptional temperatures across almost the entire country. Under the influence of a powerful anticyclone moving up from North Africa, France is preparing to experience one of the hottest days ever recorded for the month of June.

From daybreak, temperatures will remain exceptionally high, with lows between 20 and 25°C in many cities. These tropical nights will make it difficult to cool down homes and will exacerbate the effects of the heatwave, particularly in large urban areas.

In the afternoon, highs will frequently reach 38 to 40°C across much of the country. In the west, the temperature could locally climb to between 41 and 43°C. All-time heat records are expected in several major cities, notably Nantes, Bordeaux, and Rennes.

This exceptional situation is due to the presence of an extremely hot air mass, with temperatures reaching nearly 25°C at an altitude of 1.500 meters. Apart from a slight risk of thunderstorms in the Pyrenees, Alps, and Massif Central mountains, sunshine will prevail across the entire country.
