APF France Handicap is calling for a national forum on home care to address the difficulties faced by people with disabilities and the elderly. This demand comes after the seventh National Disability Conference, held on Friday, September 4th in Bobigny, in the presence of Emmanuel Macron.
The President presented 65 measures that the government must implement before the end of the year. These measures aim to simplify everyday tasks, improve the accessibility of digital services, and enable people with disabilities to travel, pay, and complete administrative procedures with greater independence.
The lack of professionals threatens autonomy
A priority must be given to home care, a sector facing persistent recruitment difficulties. The jobs involved remain characterized by low pay, insufficient recognition, and demanding working conditions. This shortage directly limits the support available to dependent individuals, particularly during health crises or heat waves.
APF France Handicap now calls for a national consultation involving the government, local authorities, employers, employees, and beneficiaries. The stakes are considerable: depending on the criteria used, between 5,7 and 18,2 million people aged five and over live with some form of disability in France. The effectiveness of the presidential announcements will therefore depend on the financial resources allocated and the ability to make these professions more attractive.
