A coalition of 150 feminist associations and unions has launched an unprecedented mobilization movement. Every Monday, rallies are organized in front of courthouses across France and the Ministry of Justice in Paris. Their stated objective: to obtain a comprehensive law against sexual violence. This movement comes in the wake of the Lyhanna case, which has triggered significant political, legal, and societal upheaval in the country.
A weekly mobilization across the entire territory
Anne-Cécile Mailfert, president of the Women's Foundation, outlined the details of this mobilization on Thursday. She hopes to create a popular and inclusive march, open to all. The coalition intends to maintain pressure on public authorities by increasing the number of gatherings across the country. The associations are counting on the regularity of these weekly events to make their demands heard.
A large demonstration is planned for July 4th.
In addition to these Monday demonstrations, a major national protest is planned for July 4th. Organizers hope to bring together a much wider audience than just activists to influence upcoming legislative decisions. This mobilization is intended to be a long-term effort, with the aim of transforming the emotion generated by recent events into concrete political change.
