The Douai Administrative Court of Appeal upheld on Wednesday the annulment of the job protection plan presented by Auchan Retail France, which included nearly 2,400 job cuts. This decision confirms an initial ruling issued in September and represents another legal setback for the retailer.
The group is turning to the Council of State
The plan, unveiled in the fall of 2024 amid a group reorganization, had been challenged by several labor unions. These unions denounced, in particular, social guarantees deemed insufficient and unevenly applied across the group's entities. For employee representatives, the confirmation of its invalidation marks a major victory after several months of legal battles.
Auchan's management, for its part, considers the decision unfounded and has announced an appeal to the Council of State. It maintains that the ruling does not invalidate the redundancies already underway or the principle of a new internal organization, but intends to have the decision overturned as a final appeal.
