Cosmetics: Henkel acquires Olaplex for $1,4 billion

The German group Henkel has announced the acquisition of the American hair care brand Olaplex for approximately $1,4 billion. The transaction, approved by Olaplex's board of directors and its main shareholder, is expected to be finalized in the second half of 2026.

The proposed price, of approximately $2,06 per share, represents a significant premium over the company's recent share price, although well below its valuation at the time of its IPO in 2021.

Henkel is strengthening its strategy in the high-end market

With this acquisition, Henkel intends to accelerate its development in premium hair care products, a segment considered more profitable and experiencing strong growth. Olaplex, specializing in restorative hair care, has a particularly strong presence in North America and in professional salons.

This acquisition is part of a series of recent investments by the German group in the beauty sector, which seeks to strengthen its position against the major players in the industry. The transaction also illustrates the ongoing restructuring of the cosmetics industry, marked by a surge in acquisitions in the high-end segment.
