BlaBlaCar plans to stop its BlaBlaCar Bus coach business in France

The BlaBlaCar carpooling platform announced on Tuesday that it is considering ending its coach service operated under the BlaBlaCar Bus brand, citing persistent economic difficulties in this segment.

The project, which still needs to follow the applicable social procedures, would result in the elimination of around forty jobs. The company justifies this decision by citing recurring operating losses in a sector where low prices make the business model fragile.

A repositioning towards a platform activity

Despite this withdrawal, connections and ticket sales are expected to continue, as the routes are operated by partner carriers. BlaBlaCar intends to strengthen its role as an intermediary by supporting these independent operators in running the journeys.

This development is causing concern within the industry, particularly for the subcontracting companies involved. The coach market, open to competition since 2015, could find itself dominated by a smaller number of players, even though this mode of transport remains popular with a young clientele seeking low-cost solutions.
