Alstom is reviving trains on a brownfield site between Grenoble and Chambéry

The Alstom group is giving a second life to French rolling stock. On a former industrial site located between Grenoble and Chambéry, the railway equipment manufacturer is renovating and repairing train and tram carriages. This site, located in Le Cheylas, in the Grésivaudan valley, launched this activity at the end of 2021 with the repair of its first metro train.

A unique maintenance hub in France

The factory was expected to create over a hundred jobs within three years of opening. This redevelopment of a former industrial site allows Alstom to concentrate its expertise in heavy maintenance. The Villeurbanne site, meanwhile, received an order from SNCF Voyageurs for fifteen new TGV trains in early 2026, announced on January 19th.

Alstom's two regional sites illustrate the group's strategy: producing new equipment on the one hand, and extending the lifespan of existing equipment on the other. The Cheylas site offers a local solution for French rail operators seeking to maintain their aging fleets without investing in new equipment.
