Long focused on peer-to-peer accommodation rentals, the American platform Airbnb now wants to significantly expand its reach. Faced with increasingly strict regulations in several major cities, the company is launching numerous new services to transform its app into an all-in-one travel tool.
The group is gradually developing an offering that goes beyond traditional accommodation. Independent hotels, car rentals, grocery delivery, and other services related to the stay should allow Airbnb to better compete with established players in the online tourism sector. The stated objective is to centralize all stages of a trip on a single digital platform.
A strategy to reduce dependence on tourist rentals
This diversification comes as several European countries strengthen their regulations on short-term rentals. In France, in particular, authorities are increasing measures aimed at limiting the impact of platforms on the housing market, with new registration requirements for properties offered for tourist rental.
Airbnb is also banking on evolving travel habits to fuel its growth. The platform is seeing a rise in local tourism, group stays, and personalized experiences, in a context marked by geopolitical tensions and rising transportation costs. The company hopes to become a key player in the entire tourism experience, far beyond simply booking an apartment.
