The first secretary of the Socialist Party, Olivier Faure, has set July 9 as the deadline for finalizing the PS's strategy for the 2027 presidential election. Socialist activists will be asked to decide on the course of action, particularly regarding the organization of a possible primary on the left.
A supporter of a gathering of left-wing forces outside of La France insoumise, Olivier Faure is continuing discussions with several political leaders in order to build a common candidacy capable of competing with the right and the far right in the next presidential election.
A formula for gathering is still under discussion
At this stage, several figures, including Marine Tondelier, François Ruffin, Clémentine Autain, and Benjamin Lucas-Lundy, have declared themselves in favor of a primary for the non-France Unbowed left. However, Raphaël Glucksmann has not joined this initiative, fueling debate within the progressive camp.
To try and overcome internal divisions, Olivier Faure is exploring the idea of a two-stage process. A first consultation would designate a representative of the socialist and social-democratic movement, followed by a second, broader primary bringing together the various factions of the democratic and environmental left. This proposal, however, remains subject to the agreement of the various potential partners.
