Presidential election 2027: Bernard Cazeneuve outlines his platform in a letter to the French people

Former Prime Minister Bernard Cazeneuve has taken another step in his preparations for the 2027 presidential election. In an 85-page letter to be published on Friday, the former Prime Minister outlines the main points of his platform and states that he is presenting his candidacy "based on a contract" with the French people. While not yet an official declaration, the founder of the Citizens' Convention is now clearly stating his ambitions for the Élysée Palace.

In an interview with Le ParisienThe former Minister of the Interior reaffirmed his refusal to participate in the Socialist Party primary. He believes that the "political maneuvering" and the alliance between the Socialist Party and La France Insoumise have permanently distanced his vision from that of his former political party. Bernard Cazeneuve is therefore claiming an independent candidacy, based on what he describes as a "left-wing republican" platform.

Criticism of François Hollande and Raphaël Glucksmann

Bernard Cazeneuve also regrets not having succeeded in building a coalition with François Holland and Raphaël Glucksmann. According to him, their "personal agendas" prevented the creation of what he calls a "bulwark of stability" within the social-democratic left. He also reiterates his disagreements with the choices made during the creation of the New Popular Front for the snap parliamentary elections.

In this letter, the former head of government outlines several priorities for the next five-year term. He argues, in particular, for a strengthening of the state's protective role, a fundamental reform of public services, especially in education and healthcare, and a modernization of institutions. Bernard Cazeneuve also calls for the rejection of the "two anti-establishment movements" he attributes to the National Rally and La France Insoumise, while continuing his campaign for the official announcement of his candidacy in the coming months.
