Just over a year before the presidential election, Raphaël Glucksmann took another step in his campaign strategy by gathering several thousand supporters in Aubervilliers. Without officially announcing his candidacy, the MEP sent numerous signals leaving little doubt about his intentions for 2027, demonstrating his desire to build a left-wing alternative based on a social-democratic, pro-European, and reformist platform.
Addressing his supporters, the founder of Place Publique emphasized the need to break with what he described as a culture of resignation within his political camp. He presented sovereignty as one of the major pillars of his platform, encompassing economic, energy, environmental, and digital independence. The elected official also defended a patriotic vision of the left, arguing that questions of national identity should not be left to the far right.
A left-wing rallying operation
Beyond the programmatic speech, the meeting also aimed to demonstrate his ability to unite the various factions within the social-democratic bloc. Raphaël Glucksmann made several appeals to socialists and environmentalists, while reaffirming his opposition to an open primary. Among those present were several Socialist Party officials critical of the current leadership, as well as environmental figures who favor a political realignment in preparation for 2027.
The MEP also put forward several measures designed to highlight his social stance, particularly regarding wages, working conditions, taxation of the wealthiest individuals, and access to electric vehicles for low-income households. While some leading figures on the left were absent from this event, his supporters see this demonstration as a first step towards firmly establishing his candidacy in the presidential race.
