François Bayrou withdraws from the 2027 presidential election

François Bayrou will not run for president in 2027. This decision puts an end to speculation about a possible fourth candidacy for the politician from Béarn, after three previous attempts between 2002 and 2012.

A book to influence the debate

This announcement comes as François Bayrou prepares to publish a new book entitled "Alert on the France to Come." With this book, the former Prime Minister intends to influence the 2027 election without directly participating. He justifies this withdrawal by his desire to be able to "speak more freely," a stance that will allow him to express himself without the constraints of an election campaign.

François Bayrou thus retains political influence while freeing himself from the obligations associated with a candidacy. His withdrawal opens the way for other centrist figures to embody this perspective in the next presidential election. The MoDem party will now have to determine its strategy for 2027 without its founder as its electoral standard-bearer; the most likely option remains joining forces with the Macronist candidate or the Horizons party.
