Massive hacking in the French national education system, affecting more than 240.000 employees

A new security breach has hit the French national education system. The personal data of nearly 243.000 employees, mostly teachers, has been compromised following an intrusion on the internal platform "Compas", dedicated to the management of trainee human resources.

The information involved is particularly sensitive: names, surnames, postal addresses, telephone numbers, as well as certain administrative data such as periods of absence. The professional contact details of the mentors supervising these staff members are also included in the stolen files.

An intrusion detected late

The attack, which occurred on March 15, was only detected four days later by the ministry's cybersecurity services. Some of the data has already been leaked online by a group calling itself "Hexdex," fueling concerns about its potential misuse.

Given the seriousness of the situation, access to the platform has been suspended and checks have been launched on all of the ministry's IT systems to prevent any further spread. The relevant authorities have been notified and a complaint is being filed. This latest incident comes amid a surge in cyberattacks targeting the education sector, which has already been weakened by a recent data breach affecting private schools.
