High school students taking a subject taught in a regional language will be able to take the corresponding exam in that same language from the 2028 baccalaureate session, announced the Minister of National Education, Édouard Geffray.
The program will be for students who took a specialization in a regional language such as Breton, Basque, or Corsican during their penultimate and final years of secondary school. The exam will remain the same as the one in French but will be translated into the language in question.
A reform to be implemented from the start of the next academic year.
The oral exam may also be partially presented in the regional language for the relevant specialization. However, only one specialization may benefit from this option; the other must be prepared and assessed in French.
The ministry plans to publish the regulatory texts during the summer so that students entering their first year of high school next year can follow this new bilingual course before its first application in the 2028 baccalaureate.
