The Poitiers academy has decided to postpone the oral exams for the baccalaureate, scheduled for Monday and Tuesday afternoons, due to the high temperatures forecast for next week. Nearly 4,500 students across 84 schools are affected by this exceptional measure. Candidates were informed of the new dates by their schools on Thursday.
According to the regional education authority, this is a first in France. Never before has a baccalaureate exam been officially postponed due to a heatwave. The affected oral exams will be held a week later to ensure better conditions for students and examiners.
A decision made possible by the ministry's new guidelines
This decision comes after announcements by the Minister of National Education, Édouard Geffray, who authorized regional education authorities to adapt exam organization locally in the event of extreme temperatures. Regional education officials can now postpone certain exams by a few hours or several days when conditions become too difficult.
Academic authorities have determined that the expected temperatures in several schools in the region will prevent oral exams from proceeding normally this afternoon. For the time being, Poitiers remains the only academy to have activated this exceptional measure, but further postponements could be considered elsewhere if the heatwave continues in the coming days.
