Education Minister Édouard Geffray announced on France 3 this Sunday that 845 schools and colleges will not operate normally this Monday due to the heatwave. These schools, located in departments under red alert, will either not welcome students or will offer only minimal services. This measure comes as Météo France has activated a red alert level for the first time in 35 departments, an exceptional situation affecting nearly 26 million French people.

This decision aims to protect students from an unprecedented heatwave. The affected schools are primarily located in areas where temperatures will reach dangerously high levels. The minister explained that the arrangements will vary from school to school, with some closing completely while others will maintain limited services for families without childcare options.
The heatwave is also disrupting other events planned for this weekend. The Fête de la Musique (Music Festival), celebrated this Saturday evening, is expected to be heavily impacted by the extreme temperatures in many French cities. Authorities are urging the public to exercise extreme caution and adopt preventative measures in the face of this exceptional heat.
