Toyota Motor Corp reported a second consecutive month of higher global sales in February on Friday, driven by increased production and a strong sales recovery in Japan following a scandal over vehicle certification procedures in its home market last year.

Global production at the world's largest automaker increased 6% year-on-year last month, reaching 779 vehicles. Local production climbed 790%, while overseas production grew by less than 16%.

In North America, Toyota production fell 1 percent, as did vehicle exports from Japan to the United States, its main market.

The company's global revenue rose 6% in February, driven by a 28% surge in domestic sales and a 2% growth in international sales.

Le président américain Donald Trump announced Wednesday the imposition of 25% customs duties on imported cars and vans, a measure that will take effect on April 3.

Toyota's North American sales fell 7%, a decline the company attributed to fewer business days and insufficient inventories of hybrid models and other vehicles. However, the company noted that demand for its vehicles remains strong.

Production and sales figures also include its luxury brand, Lexus.
