The interest rate on the Livret A savings account is expected to increase in the coming weeks. Economy Minister Roland Lescure announced on Tuesday that the rate will be "tilted upwards" following calculations conducted with the Bank of France. The official decision is expected in mid-July.
A revision linked to the return of inflation
The minister did not specify the amount of this increase, indicating that final decisions were still being made. This rise must take into account the recent acceleration of inflation, fueled in particular by tensions in the Middle East, in accordance with the Livret A savings account review mechanism.
The interest rate on the Livret A savings account was lowered to 1,5% in February, its lowest level in several years, significantly reducing the return on the most popular savings product in France. Raising it would offer a better return to the approximately 57 million Livret A account holders.
The new remuneration will be proposed by the Governor of the Bank of France before being approved by the government. It is expected to come into effect during the summer.
