CMA Media cuts stakes in RMC-BFM: local BFM stations put up for sale, voluntary redundancy plan launched

CMA Media is undertaking a major cost-cutting program within its audiovisual division. The group, owner of BFMTV, RMC, La Tribune and Brut, aims to achieve €20 million in savings, representing 5% of its costs, and is putting its nine local BFM channels up for sale.

Nine local channels on the market

The affected channels are BFM Lyon, BFM Marseille Provence, BFM Grand Lille, BFM Grand Littoral, BFM DICI, BFM Toulon Var, BFM Nice Côte d'Azur, BFM Alsace, and BFM Normandie. CMA Media aims to find buyers by the end of the year. BFM's local branches previously operated ten stations. BFM Paris Île-de-France closed in March 2025, reducing the current network to nine channels.

The local economic model is no longer viable.

Management explains this decision by citing the fragility of the local television channel model. Their funding depends on local advertising and public investment, both of which are declining. The group believes these channels can find a more sustainable model with local investors than within CMA Media.

RMC-BFM affected by a voluntary redundancy plan

In parallel, CMA Media will launch a voluntary redundancy plan within its RMC-BFM audiovisual division. The legally required procedures for informing and consulting employee representatives are scheduled to begin at the end of August. No specific number of redundancies has been announced at this stage.

Money redirected towards sports, streaming and social media

Cost reductions must be accompanied by a reallocation of resources towards new growth drivers. CMA Media plans to launch RMC+, its new streaming platform, in September. The group is also preparing CMA Studio, an audiovisual production arm focused on platforms and social networks, and is continuing its acquisition of RMC Sport.
