Villages in southern France were hit by a destructive tornado on Monday. More than 40 people were injured and nearly 2,800 homes were without power by evening.

The tornado formed during a thunderstorm, as filmed by a witness from the village of Verzeille. Winds exceeding 100 km/h tore the roofs off several houses in Pomas, a neighboring town also affected by the phenomenon.

Local authorities have reported more than 40 injured. On Monday evening, approximately 2,800 homes were still without power, while several roads remained blocked in the area.
