After Storm Nils, France is under pressure: 13 departments are on flood alert

The consequences of Storm Nils continue to be felt. On Saturday, Météo-France placed 13 departments on orange alert for flood risk, due to saturated ground and already highly volatile waterways. The departments concerned are: Ariège, Charente, Charente-Maritime, Dordogne, Haute-Garonne, Gers, Ille-et-Vilaine, Indre-et-Loire, Loire-Atlantique, Morbihan, Deux-Sèvres, Tarn, and Tarn-et-Garonne.

In the Southwest, the situation remains even more critical: the Gironde and Lot-et-Garonne departments remain under red alert for flooding, with a risk of major overflows in the coming hours. According to Vigicrues, significant overflows are already underway on several sections of the river, and the situation remains rapidly evolving, particularly on the Garonne River downstream from Agen.

Authorities have already carried out evacuations, particularly in Lot-et-Garonne, where several natural dikes have been damaged. In Dordogne, residents have also been relocated as a precaution. A relative lull in the rain is expected by Sunday morning, although vigilance remains high as long as water levels continue to rise.
