The pilot and co-pilot of a private jet chartered by former baseball star Yadier Molina died in a crash in the Dominican Republic. The accident occurred on an airport runway as the aircraft was returning to La Romana, in the eastern part of the country, after declaring an emergency. According to Dominican aviation authorities, no passengers were reported on board at the time of the crash.
The plane had declared an in-flight emergency
The aircraft was approximately 16 nautical miles southwest of La Romana when it reported an emergency. It then began its return flight to La Romana International Airport. It was during this return flight that the jet crashed.
A plane intended to transport Yadier Molina and his relatives
Former St. Louis Cardinals player Yadier Molina indicated that the plane had taken off for Texas to then transport him, his family, and friends to Puerto Rico. He offered his condolences to the pilots and their families in a message posted on Instagram.
