Published in 1913, *Le Grand Meaulnes* remains Alain-Fournier's only novel. It tells the story of François Seurel and his friend Augustin Meaulnes, whose lives are turned upside down after the discovery of a mysterious estate and their encounter with Yvonne de Galais. Between a quest for love, aimless wandering, and disillusionment, the novel explores the end of childhood and the difficulty of recapturing the world of early emotions intact. The trajectory of its author, who died at only 27 at the beginning of the First World War, has contributed to enshrining this text in legend. Even today, it remains among the most widely read and translated French works in the world.
Emmanuel Besnault, trained at the Conservatoire national supérieur d'art dramatique in Paris, belongs to a generation of multifaceted artists capable of conceiving a performance in all its dimensions.
