M6 has created a trailer inspired by the opening credits of Dallas To announce the World Cup semi-final between France and Spain, Kylian Mbappé, Ousmane Dembélé, and several other French players replaced characters from the famous American series in the split screens characteristic of the opening credits. This choice directly referenced the match's venue. The game will be played on Tuesday, July 14th, at Dallas Stadium, located in Arlington, in the Dallas metropolitan area of Texas. M6 thus used one of the television references most closely associated with the American city.
The BBC had already had the same idea in 1994
As good an idea as it may be, this trailer is not an original creation of M6. The BBC had already used the opening credits of Dallas During the 1994 World Cup held in the United States, on July 9, 1994, before the Brazil-Netherlands quarter-final match played at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas, British television broadcast a presentation modeled after the opening credits of the series. Bebeto, Dennis Bergkamp, Romário, and the other stars of the match appeared in place of the actors, accompanied by the original music and presented in the same split frames. Brazil won that match 3-2 and went on to become world champions.
Another similar event had aired three years earlier in the United States. On December 29, 1991, CBS Sports had adopted the format of Dallas to open the NFL playoff game between the Dallas Cowboys and the Chicago Bears. The players and coaches of the Texas franchise had replaced the members of the Ewing family.
A decisive semi-final in Texas
France has secured its qualification by beating Morocco 2-0 France reached the quarter-finals thanks to goals from Kylian Mbappé and Ousmane Dembélé. Les Bleus have won all six of their matches since the start of the tournament and are aiming for a third consecutive World Cup final.
Spain eliminated Belgium 2-1. Fabián Ruiz opened the scoring, Charles De Ketelaere equalized for the Belgians and Mikel Merino secured qualification for La Roja.
This match will also be a rematch of the Euro 2024 semi-final, which Spain won 2-1. Kick-off is at 21 pm French time at Dallas Stadium. The match will be broadcast live on M6 and beIN Sports 1.
With this promotion, in a way DallasM6 is reviving an idea already seen on American and British television, but still just as effective for all those who knew the famous series…
